- ➤ The School and Institutional Trust Funds Office announced $134 million will be given to public schools for the 2026 to 2027 school year (a 20% increase from last year). Ogden School District will receive $2.1 million to help cut class sizes and boost academic programs. Standard-Examiner

- ➤ The Utah Avalanche Center warned on Jan. 5 that heavy snowfall and strong winds had created dangerous avalanche conditions across northern Utah and southeastern Idaho (affecting areas like the Wasatch and Bear River Ranges), so backcountry travelers are urged to carry rescue gear and travel with a partner. - ➤ Officials warn that dangerous avalanche conditions persist today on northern Utah mountain slopes — heavy snowfall and strong winds may cause avalanches up to 6 feet deep, so skiers must carry rescue gear and avoid steep, exposed slopes. FOX 13 News
