- ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox proposed a bell-to-bell cellphone ban in schools to extend last year's class-time restriction so students can have a day free from phone distractions. Lawmakers will review the measure in the legislative session that begins Jan. 20. KUER
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Great Salt Lake Data report, released Wednesday, shows that the lake remains 6½ to 7 feet below healthy levels while outlining five lessons to guide restoration plans ahead of the 2034 Winter Games (including boosting partnerships and better water data) as the state plans long-term solutions. - ➤ Fremont High won a 72-26 game over Box Elder on Wednesday, Jan. 7 — junior Abigail Christensen scored a career-high 33 points as the Silverwolves topped the 5A Region 5 girls basketball race. They will play at Northridge on Jan. 14. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ At Roy High on Wednesday night, Boston Greenhalgh scored 28 points to lead his team to a 68-49 win over Bonneville — Anthony Parker added 20 as Fremont edged Box Elder 59-53. In Ogden, the local team fell 63-54 to American Heritage while Grantsville won 63-48 at Ben Lomond. Standard-Examiner
