  • Ogden pet lovers can help local organizations support animal adoptions and care — the Golden Bark Foundation rescues senior dogs, Weber County Animal Services runs shelter programs, and House Cat Cafe pairs dining visitors with adoptable cats. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Biologists estimate over 50,000 birds died from an avian flu outbreak along the south arm of the Great Salt Lake since 2022. Officials advise cleaning bird feeders—especially where domestic birds are kept—to help prevent further spread of the virus.  FOX 13 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Amid realignment, Weber State is adjusting its football and basketball schedules + NDSU may cancel the 2029 Ogden game so the Wildcats are looking to renegotiate for 2027. Utah State announced its Pac-12 football schedule for fall 2026, starting with four nonconference games then hosting and playing conference rivals.  Standard-Examiner
  • Ogden High’s boys basketball team won 61 to 45 in Friday’s 3A first round playoff game against Manti. The Tigers used strong defense in the second half to turn a 31 to 30 halftime lead into a double digit advantage, advancing to the quarterfinals at Southern Utah University.  Standard-Examiner
  • Head coach Eric Kjar has boosted Weber State’s roster by adding 67 new players (41 from Utah) since his December press conference, and the team will prepare for spring ball at Stewart Stadium soon. It is a big change to build local talent.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State men’s basketball beat Idaho 83-72 in Moscow on Thursday, Feb. 12 after building a 26-point lead in the first half; Tijan Saine Jr. scored 29 points + the Wildcats held off a late comeback to seal the win.  Standard-Examiner
  • Layton High’s wrestling team clinched its fourth consecutive 6A state title on Feb. 12 at UCCU Center in Orem by winning five individual championships and earning 300.5 points — a season-long quest led by coach Adam Fager.  Standard-Examiner
