CULTURE NEWS

  • Ogden City Arts is accepting applications for the 2026-2028 Poet Laureate role that will promote literary education and boost community events; candidates must participate in at least five public readings each year (applications accepted through Friday, March 20).  Standard-Examiner

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Nordic Valley, a local ski resort in Eden, closed on Feb. 11 due to low snow, affecting nearby businesses. Officials are hopeful to reopen the resort this Friday — colder temperatures may boost snowmaking.  FOX 13 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Stephen King's 1998 horror novel 'Bag of Bones' was banned from Utah public schools Friday—making it the 23rd title removed from the curriculum amid ongoing challenges to his work.  FOX 13 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • California Gov. Newsom sent a letter supporting Utah Gov. Cox’s proposal to trade Colorado River water shares for funds to build desalination plants—a plan championed by state officials to ease local water shortages. Negotiations among basin states remain ongoing.  FOX 13 News

  • Snowbasin Resort will host the inaugural Snowbasin by UTMB trail running event Sept. 10-12, 2026, featuring 58km and 28km races that combine alpine climbs + local dining along 25th Street and offer runners a path to earn UTMB World Series qualification.  Standard-Examiner
