  • Former Tremonton Fire Chief Ned Brady Hansen, 54, made his first court appearance on Monday, March 17th in Weber County Court where he faces eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after illegal child pornography files were found during a Jan 27 search of his home and devices — his next hearing is set for Thursday to review his bail request.  Gephardt Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The inaugural Northern Utah Development Symposium will be held at the Ogden Eccles Conference Center on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the event is hosted by Weber County Economic Development and the Northern Utah Economic Alliance and will feature keynote speaker Kathy Mussio along with panel discussions on sustainable community growth.  Standard-Examiner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Weber State University is reallocating $6.7 million from its budget after cutting administrative positions and choosing not to fill the vacant dean’s role in Moyes College—officials say current students will complete their programs and teacher training will continue as planned. Some students worry that the changes might hurt academic programs while renovations at the McKay Education Building remain on track.  FOX 13 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hill Air Force Base announced Monday it will begin its season of large detonation operations this month at the Utah Test and Training Range to destroy obsolete Department of Defense rocket motors — the operation will use over 10,000 pounds of explosives with one or two detonations planned per week through September, based on weather and workload.  Gephardt Daily
