  • Weber State spirit squad’s Johanna Simon was named one of the top-five finalists for Team Impact’s 2026 Teammate of the Year Award for supporting 9-year-old cancer patient Kara Oliver—who is resuming school and receives twice-monthly visits in Ogden.  Standard-Examiner

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ring announced Tuesday (Mar. 17) that its new Fire Watch feature is expanding nationwide to alert customers of wildfire risks; the system watches live camera video for signs of smoke and fire and could help residents in areas like Ogden Valley.  KSL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced that women can now serve as local Sunday School presidents, replacing the previous practice of appointing only men. The change is effective immediately (local wards will assign female leaders with female counselors) and marks a quiet shift in leadership roles.  KUER

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ogden-Weber Chamber of Commerce CEO Chuck Leonhardt said that the COVID pandemic changed the business landscape & now fewer large companies are moving into Weber County while current employers like Fresenius, Chromalox and Williams International reinvest to boost growth.  Standard-Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Field High’s softball team won 13-3 over Bonneville on Tuesday with standout efforts from Kadence Dyson and Kam Bell in a five-inning region game. Other local schools also recorded wins in baseball, soccer and volleyball in contests held Monday and Tuesday.  Standard-Examiner
  • The University of Utah ski team won its 18th national title Saturday at Soldier Hollow Nordic Center, scoring 549.5 points to edge Colorado by 10.5 points (Mons Melbye claimed his 91st individual championship and the team earned 15 All-American nods) and will host the meet in 2028.  Standard-Examiner
  • Tuesday at Ogden High, the Tigers scored nine runs in the fourth inning—overcoming an eight-game home losing streak—to beat Ben Lomond 12-2. The win extended their record of over BL victories to 11 since 2021 and showed the strength of the young teams.  Standard-Examiner
