EDUCATION NEWS

  • Weber State University announced that Jeremy Oller will become the new dean of the John B. Goddard School of Business and Economics on July 7—ending nearly three years of interim leadership by Doris Geide-Stevenson. Oller, who served as dean at the University of Central Oklahoma, said he will focus on enhancing teaching and increasing community engagement.  Standard-Examiner
  • North Ogden’s Maria Montessori Academy at 2505 N. 200 East hosts authors Misty Black and Jared Woodcox today as part of Literacy Week, with Black speaking to kindergarten through third grade and Woodcox addressing fourth through ninth grade—both aiming to spark creativity and show students that their ideas can be turned into published stories.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Utah Supreme Court ruled against a group of teens who sued the state over fossil fuel development—dismissing the case without prejudice so they can file a new challenge and press for changes in state energy policies. The decision upholds that no agency must authorize fossil fuel projects at the expense of children’s health.  The Salt Lake Tribune

  • The FRA sent a letter to local officials granting a joint waiver for the Woods Cross Quiet Zone — trains on the Salt Lake City to Ogden line must silence their horns within seven days. Local crossings have a two-year deadline to complete the required changes.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Gov. Spencer Cox said Thursday that state officials added new positions to manage 582 bills passed out of 959 introduced during a 45-day session—he noted that his plan to veto more bills in the future is meant to keep state costs under control.  The Salt Lake Tribune
