Good morning, Ogden. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 28th of March.

CULTURE NEWS

  • After more than 40 years in Utah, Sundance announced Thursday that it would leave Park City and move to Boulder in 2027 — citing Boulder’s small-town charm and vibrant arts scene. Gov. Spencer Cox called the decision a mistake and said state officials plan to start a new film festival to boost the local film economy.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A judge refused to dismiss a lawsuit that says Utah leaders did not work hard enough to protect the Great Salt Lake—allowing environmental groups to move forward with their case. The ruling did not stop planned upstream water diversions and gives the plaintiffs a chance to push for long-term solutions.  FOX 13 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utah lawmakers passed a law that says only licensed therapists can treat mental health issues—aiming to stop untrained life coaches from offering care. Researchers found that about 40% of life coaches claimed they can handle mental health—raising worries over the potential harm to clients.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Ogden City’s fire and police departments and Rocky Mountain Power Foundation secured a grant to buy 10 Knox HomeBox secure key storage units — the first in Utah to help vulnerable residents receive fast emergency access. With homeowners’ consent, first responders will install them over entry points by the end of June to avoid property damage during emergencies.  Standard-Examiner
  • On March 15, protestors gathered at Riverdale Tesla in Ogden at noon to oppose federal layoffs by the Department of Government Efficiency—DOGE—and the role of presidential advisor Elon Musk. Local activist Kevin Lundell said the protest showed how the layoffs hurt federal workers and their families.  Standard-Examiner
