  • Ogden officials said the Home Sweet Ogden program improved affordable housing by remodeling older homes for families earning up to 80% of the area median income, and local data shows a 7% increase in owner occupancy in most census tracts. The state's moderate-income housing program—strengthened with accountability measures—has spurred similar projects statewide to ease the housing shortage.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • The Ogden City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to name the Marshall N. White Community Center fieldhouse after Officer Nathan James Lyday, who served for 15 months before he was killed in May 2020—honoring his sacrifice as the center nears its early May opening.   • Ogden police responded at 9:06 p.m. on April 3 when they found a 40-year-old woman on the 400 block of 800 North with a gunshot wound to her left upper chest and took her to a hospital where she died; an investigation is underway.  Gephardt Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ogden Arts Festival, now managed by Ogden Downtown Alliance at Ogden Union Station, is accepting artist applications until April 9 — featuring handmade, performing, and literary art — and the festival is scheduled for July 19-20. This 19th edition will highlight over 100 local and regional artists in 15 categories.  The Ogdenite

  • Governor Spencer Cox signed bipartisan public safety and homelessness bills on Thursday at the Rio Grande Building—bills that aim to crack down on fentanyl distribution and add tougher penalties for abuse of vulnerable people. He will sign additional bills today that focus on issues affecting children and technology.  FOX 13 News
  • Some Utah Venezuelans felt singled out when past government policies linked their tattoos to a gang and led to different treatment by law enforcement and other Latinos. Immigration attorney Carlos Trujillo said this stereotyping hurt the community—causing some to hide signs of their heritage.  KUER
