- ➤ The Humane Society of Utah announced that some of the 156 dogs rescued from an Ogden home on April 15 are up for adoption. They are small mixed breeds that need extra training and patience — local adopters are encouraged to consider providing the care they require. KSL-TV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kristen Nelson, a sixth-grade teacher at Silver Ridge Elementary in Farr West, advanced to the semifinal round of America’s Favorite Teacher and now competes with seven others—voting ends today at 8 p.m. If she wins, she will receive a $25,000 prize, a trip to Maui, and a chance to host a virtual assembly with Bill Nye while also planning to use prize funds for more classroom supplies. - ➤ During its Tuesday meeting at the Weber Center, the county commission approved rezoning nearly 26 acres at 600 South 4700 West in West Weber from A-1 agricultural to R1-15 residential, setting the stage for the 74-lot Harper Haven subdivision that must be built within 10 years or revert to agricultural use. The commission also approved a $3.8 million grant for renovations to the Ice Sheet and sports complex, which will host international curling events in 2026 — and raised parking fines near Pineview and Causey reservoirs for summer months.
