  • Weber County Animal Services now cares for eight dogs and eleven cats left from a hoarding crisis that began with 154 dogs because many rescue groups helped. Several shelters are hosting adoption events soon—giving these animals a chance for new homes while none are scheduled for euthanasia.  KSL-TV

CRIME NEWS

  • A Utah couple, James Lael Jensen and Kelly Anne Jensen, were arrested Wednesday on charges of money laundering and smuggling 2,881 shipments of oil worth over $300 million from Mexican cartels—charges that also include their two sons after a multi-state raid on their Texas company and Sandy mansion.  KSL-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thousands of students celebrated graduation over the weekend as more than 3,800 from Weber State University earned degrees while other institutions held ceremonies across the state. Tate Warren, a Weber State graduate from the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences who earned dual degrees in political science and quantitative economics, urged his fellow graduates to 'go be great' as he prepares to work at Goldman Sachs & study for law school.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Weber State University is teaming with Hogle Zoo to collect small electronics like cell phones, tablets and accessories at the Ogden Wildcat Store, Downtown and Davis Wildcat Store until April 30 — the drive helps reduce waste and decrease mining for coltan that harms endangered gorilla habitats — supporters can drop off items during regular campus hours.  Standard-Examiner
  • A grass fire burned 700 acres in northwest Weber County Friday night. Crews from WCFD and the Utah Division of Natural Resources responded around 6:30 p.m. and contained the fast-moving blaze — no injuries or property damage were reported and the cause remains under investigation.  Gephardt Daily

  • Gov. Spencer Cox ordered flags at state buildings across Utah to fly at half-staff today in honor of fallen firefighter Corban Summers, who died on duty last Monday—he asked private citizens and businesses to lower their flags as a tribute.  KSL-TV
