ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources invites locals to adopt one of 15 Mojave desert tortoises threatened by habitat loss. The application process is now open + a chance to support local conservation.  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Box Elder County commissioners delayed action on the Stratos Project, a large data center proposal by Kevin O’Leary+West GenCo, to assess environmental and water supply concerns near the Great Salt Lake. They will resume discussions on May 4 with both critics and project representatives outlining details on the plan.  KSL-TV
  • Utah and other Upper Basin states proposed a mediator to break the deadlock in Colorado River water-sharing talks after missing a mid-February deadline. They plan to resume negotiations soon to avoid federal intervention and potential legal battles later this summer.  KUER

HEALTH NEWS

  • Since May 2025, Utah stopped adding fluoride to public water, and dental experts warn that cavities may rise in coming years while the Your Smile Matters campaign (launched in late 2025) educates families at local schools with free screenings and toothbrushes.  KUER
  • A recent executive order aims to expediate federal review of psychedelic drugs for PTSD treatment as University of Utah clinical trials, authorized by Gov. Cox, move forward to help veterans. Researchers expect more details in the coming weeks plus this could lead to new treatment options.  KUER

  • Pavlovian, a horse trained at the Washington County fairgrounds in Hurricane by Red Cliffs Racing (at 40-1 odds), will compete in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Locals credit the quiet track for nurturing future racing stars.  FOX 13 News
