COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Ogden City and the Ogden Trails Network—together with the Trails Foundation of Northern Utah—announced trail improvements near Mt. Ogden Golf Course that will add new signage, maintenance gates, natural fencing and a rerouted Gib's Loop with plans for a year-round dog park. Community policing officers will guide trail users as volunteer outreach runs today through May 3rd.  Standard-Examiner

CRIME NEWS

  • A 37-year-old woman was charged in 2nd District Court with murder—along with counts of obstruction of justice and being a restricted person in possession of a weapon—after 40-year-old Nakeena Youngman died from a gunshot wound on April 2 near 457 E. 800 North in Ogden, and she reportedly confessed to shooting her during custody while she is held at Davis County Jail.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ogden City is starting improvements today on Gib’s Loop Trail to keep users off the Mt. Ogden Golf Course for safety reasons. The work will add new signage, natural fencing, maintenance gates, and a rerouted section of the trail—volunteers and the Ogden High School Mountain Bike Team will help guide these changes over the next few months.  Standard-Examiner
  • This summer, families in Utah will receive help feeding their children as the Utah SUN Bucks program, also known as Summer EBT, provides $120 per eligible school-age child for groceries; funds will be added to an EBT account or issued on a separate card beginning in June. Eligible children (those receiving SNAP, TANF, Medicaid or free/reduced lunch) will be automatically enrolled.  KSL-TV

  • In 2023, Utah farmers and ranchers used all free therapy vouchers from a federal program in just four months—one recipient said it saved his life. State lawmakers have criticized the one-time funding boost as unsustainable given the high stress and suicide risk in farming.  The Salt Lake Tribune
