Good morning, Ogden. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 2nd of May.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, April 29th, 2025, Myers Mortuary held a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its Ogden funeral home at 845 Washington Blvd to mark the completion of renovations that added a new 11 x 16 foot mural by artist Kirk Larsen—one of four he has painted for the mortuary. The remodel updated ceiling beams, decorative moldings, and lighting to create a bright, welcoming chapel for families during funeral services.  Standard-Examiner

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ogden-Con will be held on May 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Comfort Suites Ogden Conference Center, offering free admission with over 40 vendors selling comics, games, and collectibles and fun activities like costume contests and Lego events — some proceeds will support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation while its ambassador Jennie Taylor speaks at 11 a.m.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Utah leaders signed two memorandums of understanding with Idaho and Wyoming on Tuesday — agreeing to work together on new nuclear energy technology and build critical infrastructure. Gov. Spencer Cox said the agreement will help make Utah a hub for affordable power — linking universities, labs and industry partners.  Standard-Examiner
  • Farr West residents raised safety concerns at the intersection of 2700 North and 2000 West near Farr West Elementary after a 9-year-old died on March 16, and UDOT adjusted signals, extended crossing times, and lowered the speed limit on 2700 North. UDOT is planning an extra crosswalk – a measure officials say will further boost safety – while warning that driver decisions remain unpredictable.  FOX 13 News
  • Two years ago, PornHub blocked access in Utah because a law required users to show their age — the rule was meant to keep minors away from adult content. Twenty-two states now enforce similar rules and a Supreme Court review of a Texas free speech challenge will be decided soon — the outcome could change how sites verify age.  KUER

  • Johnny Russell, who played as a rival with Sporting Kansas City, has signed as a free agent with Real Salt Lake and was seen high-fiving teammates at training. He may play this Saturday in Vancouver to help the young team with his extra experience — a change he says is exciting.  FOX 13 News
