  • Ogden High students, family, and faculty gathered on May 9 for a candlelight vigil in the school courtyard to honor 16-year-old Gauge Alexander Giesen, who died on May 4 at Primary Children's Hospital after being pulled from the Weber River during an airsoft game + memorial services continued at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.  Standard-Examiner

  • Ramblin’ Roads Family Restaurants expanded from its start in North Salt Lake and Bountiful to six locations including Ogden, Layton, South Ogden, Midvale, and Salt Lake, with the Ogden branch opening in 2020 to serve local breakfast lovers. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The federal government resumed collecting defaulted student loans on May 5 and more than 320,000 Utah borrowers face tougher repayment measures, including wage garnishments—raising fears among local residents like Ogden’s Madison Owens who worry that rising costs will worsen their financial strain. Experts say that stricter collections may deepen the burden on borrowers and deter future college enrollment.  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • More than 260 public safety workers from across the country attended a drone training event in Ogden organized by the Weber County Sheriff’s Office and the nonprofit Law Enforcement Drone Association. The weeklong event, which ended Friday, taught search and rescue tactics plus legal guidelines for using drones in emergencies.  Standard-Examiner
  • Governor Spencer Cox signed an executive order on May 9 that established the GRIT initiative to boost efficiency and accountability in state agencies — the program asks agencies to submit improvement projects and report progress while gathering feedback from the public and state workers.  KUER
