COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two new grant programs from Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership are boosting local families with rental assistance and case management. The TANF Housing Assistance Program has aided 67 families since October 2025, and the Benefit Navigator Program has reached 34 families, addressing rising housing costs.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A state report shows record snowfall in 2022-23 while three seasons later Utah experienced its lowest snowfall ever recorded, highlighting dramatic shifts in winter weather.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Scientists are studying dust from the exposed lake bed at Great Salt Lake as drought conditions increase dust events. Researchers are installing monitors near communities, including Ogden, to track chemical contaminants and assess potential long-term environmental impacts.  FOX 13 News
  • Ogden City has installed four air quality monitors to track dust and pollutants in real time; the data will help inform decisions to improve air quality around Weber State and downtown areas. The installation, funded by a local race that raised over $15,000, will enable residents to make informed daily choices.  FOX 13 News
  • A Utah physician warns that 21 planned data centers along the Wasatch Front will worsen air quality by generating natural gas emissions that produce nitrogen oxide and smog, posing risks to public health and the Great Salt Lake.  FOX 13 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three Utahns exposed to the Andes hantavirus on a cruise ship outbreak are now in isolation at medical facilities as health officials and the CDC work with South American epidemiologists to monitor them for six weeks to ensure public safety.  FOX 13 News

  • The 25th Ogden Marathon runs on May16, starting east of Huntsville and ending downtown on 25th Street and Grant Avenue. A memorabilia display opens at Gallery 51 (Union Station) on May15, and a Finish Line Festival runs from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The Ogdenite
  • Ogden High won its sixth boys soccer state title after a 1 to 0 victory over Morgan on Monday, May 11 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman with senior Xavier Peregrina making a key save. The Tigers secured their third straight championship under coach Todd Scott.  Standard-Examiner
