A Utah woman who pleaded guilty to eight felony counts for the abuse, torture, and murder of her 12-year-old stepson will face sentencing Monday at 2 p.m. in Ogden — prosecutors are recommending the maximum sentence — after years of documented cruelty.

State legislators required unlicensed daycare providers caring for more than four children to get background checks to boost childcare access, but as of early April only 74 providers at 34 centers have complied—leaving many parents uncertain about the screening status of caregivers.
