  • On May 12th, a semi truck carrying 35,000 pounds of frozen meat rolled on southbound I-15 near Willard — the driver suffered minor injuries and the Health Department responded due to a punctured diesel tank.  Gephardt Daily

CRIME NEWS

  • The stepmother of the 12-year-old boy from West Haven, who died last year from prolonged abuse, was sentenced on Monday to 15 years to life after pleading guilty to charges including first-degree murder—her sentence came days after his father received a 5-year to life term.  FOX 13 News
  • A Utah woman who pleaded guilty to eight felony counts for the abuse, torture, and murder of her 12-year-old stepson will face sentencing Monday at 2 p.m. in Ogden — prosecutors are recommending the maximum sentence — after years of documented cruelty.  KSL-TV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State legislators required unlicensed daycare providers caring for more than four children to get background checks to boost childcare access, but as of early April only 74 providers at 34 centers have complied—leaving many parents uncertain about the screening status of caregivers. Critics warn that without enforcement, numerous unlicensed providers may continue operating without proper checks, putting child safety at risk.  FOX 13 News
  • The Weber-Morgan Children’s Justice Center at 1845 Jackson Ave. will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. May 22 to open its child-friendly facility designed to ease the investigative process for vulnerable victims of abuse—this project is a collaboration among cities, counties, school districts, community partners and donors.  Standard-Examiner
