COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On May 9, Mountain America Credit Union and Operation Warm donated 425 new pairs of shoes to Bonneville Elementary students in Ogden, where volunteers helped each student choose a pair that fit well—an act that boosts student comfort and confidence. This community effort supports local children as they head into the warmer months.  Standard-Examiner

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • No injuries were reported after a structure fire at a home on the 2900 block of Jackson Avenue around 6 a.m. Friday that displaced three adults and three children, as firefighters from Ogden and South Ogden quickly subdued the flames and damage was estimated at $200,000 (the cause is under investigation).  Standard-Examiner
  • A sinkhole was discovered just before 8 a.m. Friday in the southbound lanes of I-15 near the 5600 South interchange in Weber County—forcing two lanes to close and causing traffic to back up to 21st Street with about 30-minute delays—and repairs were scheduled to finish by noon while further delays were expected.  Standard-Examiner

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested Thursday after a stabbing at Greenhill Apartments in Riverdale left a woman dead, and police say 39-year-old Scott Thomas Myers—suspected of murder and other charges—was subdued with a Taser when he fled the scene.  Standard-Examiner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Weber High School principal Ryan Kachold pleaded with students to stop racing and reckless driving in the school parking lot. He said the dangerous behavior—caught on cameras—has decreased after a letter to families and a partnership with local law enforcement.  FOX 13 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ogden’s mayor Ben Nadolski and local leaders, including Weber County Commissioner Jim Harvey, were named to new advisory committees for the 2034 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Salt Lake City. The committees will focus on sustainable economic development + community input during the planning process.  Standard-Examiner
  • Summit County and 19 state agencies have approved proposals to move forward with building renewable energy facilities in collaboration with Rocky Mountain Power. The planned program may use renewable options—solar, wind or geothermal—and will let homes and businesses join automatically while offering an opt-out choice.  FOX 13 News
