Good morning, Ogden. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 20th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A giant U.S. flag known as The Major that honors late Maj. Brent Taylor is being repaired and replaced after wind and rain damaged it last November in North Ogden. Colonial Flag workers are creating a new flag that will fly over Coldwater Canyon on Memorial Day — a contest for name ideas is now open — to continue honoring local veterans.  KSL-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scott Paxman of the Weber Basin Water Conservancy District said an average winter and low soil moisture led to runoff at only 65% of normal even though the snowpack reached 100% and modest flows were seen when the Ogden River exited Ogden Canyon on May 14. He said all reservoirs except Lost Creek will fill as minor releases aid irrigation—officials urge residents to conserve water to protect a two-year supply.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local officials met Monday to discuss plans for the 2034 Winter Olympics and Paralympics, where Ogden and Weber County will play key roles, as Snowbasin Resort is set to host the alpine skiing events (county leaders outlined a roadmap that includes ongoing community input).  Standard-Examiner
