COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 300 military boots with personal mementos are on display inside Union Station this Memorial Day Weekend to honor fallen service members. Operation Hero will remain open for visitors until Sunday from noon to 7 p.m.—providing a location for families to remember their loved ones.  FOX 13 News
  • After nearly two years of construction, Ogden’s new Marshall N. White Community Center held a ribbon cutting on May 22 where city leaders, residents, and Marshall White’s family marked the reopening of the historic site — built on the original 1968 location. The 68,000-square-foot center opened fully to the public on Friday and will serve as a key gathering place for the community.  Standard-Examiner

  • Joann Fabric and Craft is closing nearly all its Utah stores after filing for bankruptcy; only the Centerville and Draper locations will remain open until next Wednesday. Local crafters in Ogden are worried about finding supplies — as small local shops are seeing more customers to fill the gap.  KSL-TV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Haven special education teacher Kati Jo Christensen danced on TikTok to raise nearly $20,000 for school lunch deficits at several local schools and was honored with a Community Star award by the city council on May 21—she said her efforts will continue until every child is fed.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State and local officials gathered on Thursday to open the new Weber-Morgan Children's Justice Center in Ogden, a 19,000-square-foot building that offers a safe space for children who have suffered abuse and exploitation. The $6.5 million center replaces the old facility and will help children from Weber and Morgan counties (designed to look welcoming like a house).  KSL-TV
