COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Ogden Raptors played their first home game Tuesday, May 27, at Lindquist Field after finishing a California road trip and are now hosting community events with special promotions. The team will offer contests, weekly giveaways plus partnerships with local banks and the city to honor Ogden’s baseball past.  The Ogdenite

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Students at Northridge Elementary School gathered on Tuesday to sign cards and posters for 12-year-old Jason Thorpe—who nearly drowned over the holiday weekend at a summer party and remains in the ICU with doctors noting signs of improvement after removing him from a ventilator.  KSL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • From now until April 2026, the Dumke Arts Plaza at 445 25th St. in downtown Ogden is hosting an immersive art installation called 'This was water' created by local artists Kellie Bornhoft and Carey Campbell in collaboration with Weber State University fellows—featuring five crystalline sculptures modeled after gypsum crystals from the Great Salt Lake that play an interactive soundscape. The exhibit opened on May 16 and will include live performance events on Sept. 5, Nov. 7 and April 30 at 6 p.m.  Standard-Examiner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Bonneville Elementary hosted a dunk tank event—where nearly 200 students with strong attendance got two chances to dunk Principal Neilson—on the playground to boost attendance before the school year ends, as part of the district’s efforts to reduce chronic absenteeism.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local candidates must file for municipal elections from Monday through June 6 at city recorder and special district offices—candidates for Ogden Valley City will file at Huntsville Town Hall and need to complete conflict of interest forms and affidavits before submitting their candidacy. Weber County Clerk Ricky Hatch urged interested residents to check local requirements and prepare the necessary documents ahead of time.  Standard-Examiner

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new analysis finds Utah has the worst nurse shortage in the nation with one nurse per 75 people—55% lower than Hawaii’s rate, and low pay is driving nurses to leave for better opportunities nearby. Many nursing workers say high stress and little financial reward have caused them to seek jobs in other states.  KSL-TV
  • Utah stroke patients at Intermountain Health centers get clot-busting medicine within 45 minutes of arriving, with 94.5% meeting that goal. Fast care saved patients like Ted Itchon (a former firefighter) after he got tPA (a clot-busting drug) when he had a stroke last January.  Standard-Examiner
