Utah burns phragmites near the Great Salt Lake to conserve water because the invasive plants absorb up to 71,000 acre-feet each season (nearly nine months of the Jordan River's flow).

Although Utah’s measles cases are slowing with fewer than 10 new cases per week, Dr. Andrew Pavia warned in a state briefing that future outbreaks could occur due to pockets of low immunization & expected large gatherings later this summer and fall.

He urged continued vigilance to bolster public health measures.
