ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 69-year-old Ogden man died in Idaho when his 2019 Nissan Frontier with a trailer crossed the median on I-84 near Bliss and struck a semitruck – both vehicles caught fire and authorities are investigating the crash.  Standard-Examiner

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ogden Nature Center planned free admission for Black birders and their families from May 27 to May 31 during Black Birders Week but changed its offer after receiving angry calls and messages, including criticism from Sen. Mike Lee who called the promotion racist — the director said the new plan to offer free entry to everyone on Saturday, May 31 fixes the error and welcomes all community members.   • Music festival season in northern Utah continues in Ogden this weekend with three events: the Ogden Music Festival starts today at Fort Buenaventura with bluegrass and Americana, Ogden’s Own Distillery Summer Live Music Series features local bands on Friday and Saturday night, and the Ogden Twilight Concert Series begins on June 1 with national acts—drawing large crowds to local outdoor venues. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rocky Mountain Power filed a 130-page rehearing request on Tuesday challenging the Public Service Commission’s decision to approve only a 4.7% rate increase, arguing that limiting its ability to recover full costs is shortsighted and could threaten grid reliability and safety—criticizing the order for ignoring key evidence and regulatory precedent. The utility claims that its financial stability and capacity to invest in wildfire protection and other needed upgrades are at risk.  Standard-Examiner
  • Residents attended an open house on Tuesday, May 27 at the Municipal Building to ask city council members and department heads questions about the proposed $289 million fiscal year 2026 budget—changing from the usual online feedback.
