  • A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was nearly hit on State Route 40 when a truck swerved to avoid a slowing car— the driver said she needed a moment to recover.  FOX 13 News

CRIME NEWS

  • An Ogden man was sentenced to 84 months in prison on Monday for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon after a July 27, 2022 traffic stop revealed he had a stolen pistol and extra rounds—he will serve three years of supervised release—and his case was handled under federal weapons charges.  Standard-Examiner
  • The Rich County Sheriff is seeking help to locate 15-year-old Kylie Arellano who was last seen May 29 at 10:52 p.m. in Garden City (she is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs about 115 pounds, and has chin-length brown hair, brown eyes, black braces, and tattoos).  Gephardt Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • During its meeting Tuesday, the Weber County Commission approved a rezoning and development agreement for the Brook View subdivision on a 40-acre parcel at 4083 W. 1400 South. Developer David Laloli/Forge Land Co. — which will build 116 single-family homes — must upgrade local roads to connect the project to nearby subdivisions and support public park initiatives.  Standard-Examiner
  • The Utah House has elected three new GOP leaders behind Speaker Schultz as Rep. Casey Snider replaces Jefferson Moss as Majority Leader — Rep. Candice Pierucci is now Majority Whip and Bridger Bolinder serves as Assistant Whip, with the new team set to act in the interim session starting June 17.  KUER
