COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Snowbasin Resort will open on Saturday for a summer of outdoor fun that includes gondola rides, mini-golf, and hiking and biking trails. A new bike trail called the Hidden Trail Race Loop, built for high school mountain bike racing, will be previewed later in the season before mid-August — work on other lifts and trail improvements will continue all summer.  Standard-Examiner

  • Roy City Police are asking the public for help finding Yolanda Villalobos, a 65-year-old woman with schizophrenia who was last seen leaving Orchard Cove Apartments at 7 a.m. on June 10 — she is described as Hispanic with shoulder-length gray hair, wearing white pants, a dark blue sweater and carrying a maroon purse.  Gephardt Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • State lawmakers cut $60.5 million from Utah public colleges, so each school must trim inefficient courses, programs and jobs over the next three years—plans to later reinvest funds into fields like engineering, health care and business were also presented. The cuts, which include retiring positions and closing low-enrollment programs, aim to meet the state’s directive for more efficient spending.  The Salt Lake Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Utah DEQ announced plans to install 19 new dust monitors in communities around the Great Salt Lake — a measure to track dust levels and warn residents sensitive to mineral dust — with the system expected by year end.  FOX 13 News

  • Ogden City Fire Chief Mike Mathieu, who served nearly 40 years and led the department for 30, announced his retirement on Tuesday. A national search for a new chief will finish in late July and he will step down in mid-July — the city now relies on his strong legacy.  Standard-Examiner
