CULTURE NEWS

  • Bill Reagan of Reagan Outdoor Advertising said his company will start taking down 25% of the tribute billboards for his late wife Julia next week until all are removed by July 15—then the billboards will return each year two weeks before Memorial Day.  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UDOT is planning the FrontRunner 2X project to add 11 double track sections that will speed up trains from 30 minute waits during rush hour to 15 minutes and cut off-peak waits from 60 minutes to 30 minutes, increasing double track coverage from 26% to 58% of the system. Construction is set to start late next summer and finish by 2030—officials say it will double service for commuters—while other expansions remain in early planning stages.  Standard-Examiner
  • Ogden Mayor Ben Nadolski said in a statement that the police department will not enforce federal immigration laws and remains focused on protecting local safety amid national unrest. At a May 22 ceremony at the new Marshall N. White Community Center, he presented a new badge—similar to the one worn when Marshall White died in the line of duty—while stressing that law enforcement will follow the Constitution without prejudice.  Standard-Examiner
