CRIME NEWS

  • Ogden police are investigating a homicide after a 48-year-old woman died from knife wounds in a physical altercation on the 1400 block of Washington Boulevard on June 19—police detained a 25-year-old man at the scene.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ogden City Council voted Tuesday to adopt a $289.8 million budget for fiscal year 2026 with no property tax increases, and the plan includes a 2.97% COLA for all city employees while public safety staff will receive a 4% step increase. The budget also funds 42 capital improvement projects—such as street maintenance, park improvements, and community center upgrades—to boost city services in the coming year.  Standard-Examiner
  • Jess Anderson, Utah’s Department of Public Safety commissioner, retired Thursday after seven years leading the department and over 25 years of service—he said he was stepping down to spend more time with family. Gov. Spencer Cox nominated Beau Mason, the deputy commissioner since 2023, to replace him pending Senate approval.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • On Thursday, Utah DABS released an online training video to help bartenders and servers spot signs of overserving and reduce alcohol-related crashes. The free tool—funded by a grant from the National Alcohol Beverage Control Association—is encouraged for use by bar and restaurant operators.  KSL-TV
