Good morning, Ogden.

A fire broke out early Sunday at the mouth of Ogden Canyon that damaged an unoccupied home and led to evacuations for 40 nearby residences—fire crews slowed the blaze's progress in 10 acres now 35% contained.

The EPA’s Toxics Release Inventory showed Utah facilities released 285 million pounds of toxic chemicals in 2023—over 90% came from the Bingham Canyon Mine, which pushed the state to second in a federal ranking.

The report noted that changes in ore composition, not increased production, led to the large rise in emissions.

Local golfers recorded holes in one at regional courses, including Bob Shivers at Mount Ogden GC on July 2 with a pitching wedge, Jayden Perry at the same club on June 30 with a sand wedge, Rob Moore at The Barn GC on June 13 using a 6-iron, and Natalie Wagstaff at Davis Park GC in Kaysville on May 22 — all feats verified by witnesses.

The Ogden Raptors lost two games to last-place Great Falls after a rainout, and the series loss dropped them out of first-half contention in the Pioneer League.

The team now trails at least six games behind second-place Missoula ahead of a homestand at Lindquist Field starting Tuesday—casting doubt on their playoff chances.
