Good morning, Ogden. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 2nd of August.

CRIME NEWS

  • The Ogden City Police Department will host its annual Night Out Against Crime event on Aug. 14 from 5-7 p.m. at Marshall N. White Community Center to promote community partnership—other agencies in Clearfield and Syracuse will hold similar gatherings on Aug. 28 and Oct. 2.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ogden Valley candidates for districts 1 and 2 shared their plans ahead of the municipal primary on Aug. 12, when voters will narrow the field for a five-member city council and an at-large mayor. The Standard-Examiner asked each candidate about their experience, views on issues like water and infrastructure, and ideas to keep the valley’s charm (which many residents value).  Standard-Examiner
  • Utah lawmakers passed a law requiring a hunting or fishing license to enter Wildlife Management Areas in Salt Lake, Utah, Davis and Weber counties starting May 7 — a rule that has confused birders, runners and others who use these lands without hunting intent. Legislators promised to review the rule in the next session — seeking to balance public use with wildlife funding.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz said the legislature might call a special session this fall to help the Great Salt Lake as its water falls dangerously low and the state team looks into raising the berm to 4,192 feet—moves that may include asking the governor to add new rules.  Standard-Examiner
