COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ogden City announced a sidewalk project to link the East Central neighborhood to outdoor spaces such as the Ogden Botanical Gardens and River Parkway Trail. Construction will begin late August and finish mid-November—funded by a HUD grant the project will repair walkways near Lester Park.  Standard-Examiner

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Evacuations were ordered in North Ogden as crews battle the Willard Peak Fire—sparked by a vehicle fire that expanded to over 200 acres and threatened more than 15 structures while over 30,000 residents lost power—while the American Red Cross opened a shelter for evacuees.  The Salt Lake Tribune

CRIME NEWS

  • North Ogden police arrested caretaker Connor Ross Moranville, 29, on Tuesday after paramedics reported a 60-year-old patient left in dangerous conditions with a bed covered in feces and surrounded by garbage—she was taken to the hospital and Moranville faces charges of intentional abuse or neglect and drug paraphernalia use.  FOX 13 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Research by historian Jenny Hale Pulsipher has revealed that James Brown Jr. — a captain in the Mormon Battalion who settled Ogden and practiced polygamy — had Black ancestry that was unknown until now. The study used DNA and court records to show that early Latter-day Saint racial policies were applied in inconsistent ways.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Utah musician David Archuleta is set to release his new EP 'Earthly Delights' Friday—his first new collection in five years that shares raw personal feelings and a nod to his past work. He will support the release with a two-month tour starting with a Salt Lake City show on Sept. 19 at The Complex.  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents cast ballots in the Ogden Valley municipal primary by mail or drop box on Tuesday as early results show Shanna Francis received about 50% of the votes while Janet Wampler trailed, and officials expect full results once vote processing is nearly complete — the new local government will be formed after canvassing is done.  Standard-Examiner

HEALTH NEWS

  • Medicare may add extra fees through IRMAA for beneficiaries with incomes above set thresholds—this means higher Part B and Part D premiums in 2025 for those whose past earnings exceed limits. Pre-retirees are advised to review their tax returns and plan income withdrawals to manage these costs while filing appeals when qualifying events occur.  Standard-Examiner
