Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 23rd of August.
Good morning, Ogden.
🌲 Environment
University of Utah researchers found that logging practices in private forests create dense stands that can fuel severe wildfires as the West grows hotter and drier—making fires spread more quickly.
They say that thinning trees may lower fire risks, but Utah has few private forests and limited logging operations.
🏛️ Government
On Monday, Judge Dianna Gibson will decide whether the Legislature illegally gerrymandered Utah’s congressional districts and must redraw them following a long legal battle between voter groups and state lawmakers.
A status conference is set for August 29 at 10:00 a.m.—further proceedings may follow if new district maps are required before the 2026 elections.
🏈 Sports
Ogden High football won a 45-0 shutout at Judge Memorial on Friday—six Tigers scored touchdowns with key plays by Gavin Shreve and Anderson Curry.
Bear River also blanked Cottonwood 77-0 in a strong showing.
