CRIME NEWS

  • Box Elder County Deputy Mike Allred and K-9 Azula appeared Friday night at the Box Elder County Fair and Golden Spike Rodeo to show they are recovering after being shot while responding to Sunday's incident—organizers also honored officers killed in the line of duty.  FOX 13 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • A short film called 'Quiet, Arlo' from Weber State University's Studio 76 will screen at the Zepstone International Film & Music Festival in Salt Lake City at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 11— the film, directed by student David Guerrero and starring graduate Dustin Michael Bessire, tells a personal story of addiction and recovery that marks a special anniversary for him.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials reported that Utah's reservoirs dropped drastically as water flowed out at more than double the normal rate—storage is at 67% compared to 83% last year—and levels are expected to keep falling until temperatures cool and the irrigation season ends in October. Monsoonal moisture is expected later this week, which could help slow the decline.  The Salt Lake Tribune

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ogden Mayor Ben Nadolski discussed the city’s growth and challenges like homelessness and outdated building codes during a recent interview—he said the city is updating zoning rules and housing policies. He added that supporting local defense and aerospace jobs is key for Ogden’s future—plans include new housing and improved safety as growth continues.  Standard-Examiner
  • Gov. Spencer Cox said Thursday that he is grateful he did not know about the law’s impact on Senate President Adams’ granddaughter and defended Adams for not sharing the connection with other legislators—he stressed that the policy on treating high school students in criminal cases may need further review. Cox added that the focus must remain on whether the law is fair and effective for all Utahns.  Standard-Examiner

  • Utah teen Cade Hulet from Parowan rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Monday after Make-A-Wish granted his wish, fulfilling his interest in investing and inspiring many. Diagnosed with leukemia at age 13 and taking daily oral chemotherapy, he looks forward to ringing a bell at Primary Children's Hospital on Oct. 23 when his treatment ends—marking a hopeful step in his recovery.  FOX 13 News

  • On Friday, Aug 22, Fremont football beat Davis 35 to 34 in overtime + Cam Graves kicked the winning extra point after Cade Hadley tied the game with a 2 yard touchdown run, giving Fremont its second win while Davis dropped to one win and one loss.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State football will play 12 regular-season games in 2025—now the FCS norm—and the Wildcats face a heavy early travel schedule with four of the first five games on the road across all four U.S. time zones, totaling about 10,500 miles.
