CRIME NEWS

  • ICE arrested John Shin, a former violinist with the Utah Symphony and Ballet West who taught music—he is now held in an Aurora detention center while he awaits a Sept. 2 immigration hearing.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • On Friday, a long procession moved through Box Elder County to honor fallen Sgt. Lee Sorensen—shot on Aug. 17 during a domestic violence call—as hundreds of community members lined the road while police vehicles and a horse-drawn carriage carried his casket to East Garland Cemetery.  KSL-TV

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wild Spirit is a new documentary that will show the struggles of the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Northern Utah as it moved from its old building to a temporary facility—highlighting its two-and-a-half-year journey. The film will premier next month at 6:30 p.m. at the Tracy Aviary Nature Center’s Pia Okwai facility, part of the Rescuers series that aims to bring support to animal rescues.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last Friday, Judge Dianna Gibson ruled that the current congressional maps must be replaced and set a proposed timeline for a lawful redistricting process for the 2026 elections. State lawmakers are asking for a pause—possibly to appeal—as attorneys work to agree on deadlines, with maps currently due by Sept. 24 and the possibility of needing an extension for the Nov. 1 submission.  KUER

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday night, Ogden beat Carbon 43-7 when Blake Weston threw three touchdown passes and the defense kept Carbon from scoring—Clearfield also won 23-7 when senior running back Sean Brant rushed for 175 yards and a touchdown. Other teams like Syracuse, Morgan and Salem Hills played competitive games that kept local fans excited.  Standard-Examiner
