- ➤ Many Utah residents drove to the busy On the Run Gas Station in Malad to buy tickets for the largest ever $1.3 billion Powerball lottery, with long lines on Saturday. The station said sales surged as local players hoped a lucky ticket might change their lives—one said he planned to keep life simple if he won. FOX 13 News
- ➤ At Lindquist Field Saturday, Raptors fans saw a new giant flag honoring Major Brent Taylor during the 24th anniversary of 9/11—over 300 volunteers helped carry both heavy flags to mark the event. The new flag will fly in Coldwater Canyon for two weeks in November. KSL-TV

- ➤ Lawmakers' attorneys asked the Utah Supreme Court to pause a lower court judge’s order requiring new congressional districts, arguing that drawing maps without an independent commission conflicts with Proposition 4 — they warned the tight timeline could harm Utahns' right to fair redistricting. The Legislature must submit a draft map by Sept. 25 and hold a special session Oct. 6 so a compliant map can be used for the 2026 elections. The Salt Lake Tribune
- ➤ John Shin, a concert violinist, was held in an ICE detention facility in Colorado for 17 days before returning home to Utah on a $25,000 bond—he now wears an ankle monitor while the federal government investigates his marriage.
