CRIME NEWS

  • Gov. Spencer Cox said police arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson—a Washington resident—late Thursday in connection with the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and his comment that the shooter was 'one of us' has left Utahns debating their community values.  The Salt Lake Tribune

  • Residents can enjoy a variety of events across Northern Utah from Sept. 13 to Sept. 21—featuring local theater shows, sports matches, farmers markets and art programs in Ogden, Layton and other communities.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Utah Legislature is appealing a lower court ruling that scrapped its 2021 congressional map and will publish a new plan on Sept. 25 to meet a deadline before Nov. 10 for the 2026 election. Plaintiffs claim the lawmakers' move contradicts a voter-backed anti-gerrymandering law passed five years ago — they call the effort ironic.  Standard-Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • Weber State women’s volleyball improved to a record of 8 to 1 after defeating Iowa in five sets during a tournament at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau yesterday. The team will return home to face BYU on Tuesday — host Utah Valley on Thursday and visit Utah State on Sept. 20.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State football beat McNeese 42 to 41 on September 14 in Lake Charles, Louisiana after a late comeback in the fourth quarter—defensive tackle Matt Herron broke up a two point pass with 42 seconds left to secure the win. Jackson Gilkey led the team with 218 passing yards and 114 rushing yards as Weber State improved to a record of one to two.  Standard-Examiner
  • The Oakland Ballers beat the Ogden Raptors 1-0 in Game 3 of the Pioneer League playoffs Saturday night at Raimondi Park — the only run came on an error during a double steal that sent Oakland to the championship series.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber head football coach Mo Cannon said his team learned lessons from a 42-8 loss at Lehi on Sept. 13 after the Warriors struggled early until a late touchdown rallied them. Cannon said the loss will help the team get better as they prepare for region play on Sept. 19—watching film to fix mistakes.  Standard-Examiner
