COMMUNITY NEWS

  • More than 50 local residents gathered on Sept. 2 at the Ogden City Council to urge the city to purchase the surplus Taylor Canyon site and keep it as a park. Mayor Ben Nadolski said talks with the school district are underway to allow extra time for a deal—ensuring the park stays a safe community space.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Weber County approved a $2M pay increase for its public safety staff at the Sheriff’s Office as part of a compensation study that updated salaries without raising taxes. County officials said pay increases for all county workers will be completed by 2026 using savings from attrition and shifted capital project funds.  Standard-Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • Weber State hosted Utah Valley on Monday in Ogden—although the Wildcats took an early 2-0 lead with goals from Kirby and Knowles, Utah Valley rallied in the second half to win 4-3.  Standard-Examiner
  • Box Elder earned its sixth shutout with a 3—0 win over Roy on Sept. 16 as sophomore Taylor Nye scored twice to help her team notch a fifth straight win in the Region 5 race. Coach BJ Barber said the team played with less creativity than expected while Roy had a late goal reversed for offside.  Standard-Examiner
  • On Tuesday, Syracuse played Layton and came from behind to win 3-2 as the team, missing key defender Hadlee Durrant due to injury, rallied in the second half. Captain Taylee Hughes scored the winning goal in the 57th minute—coach Jason Steiner said the team will work on its defense before its next match.  Standard-Examiner
