- ➤ Former Administrative Assistant Tammy Braegger wrote an open letter urging the Weber School District Board to reconsider closing Lomond View Elementary—a 67-year-old school that recently received upgrades to its boiler, security entrance, cameras, and offices, and that has helped ease overcrowding in neighboring schools. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox said Tuesday at Utah Energy Week that Utah is on the cusp of a nuclear energy awakening and revealed his Operation Gigawatt plan—intended to double the state’s energy output by building a new nuclear facility in Carbon and Emery counties—to bolster rural communities; John Wagner of the Idaho National Laboratory warned that a huge workforce challenge remains for scaling up these advanced projects. - ➤ After the shooting death of Charlie Kirk at UVU, Rep. Ryan Wilcox’s bill lost its college safety assessment requirement in the Senate—an action made while many Utah colleges already review their own safety measures. UVU has retained an independent firm to help investigate the shooting, and lawmakers expect its recommendations will guide future campus safety legislation. KSL-TV
