COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Ogden Downtown Alliance hosts the Harvest Moon Celebration on Historic 25th Street from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.—a family-friendly event featuring live music, interactive fall activities, a gated beer garden, and volunteer shifts expected to draw 30,000 people. Organizers added new experiences this year such as curling lanes, axe throwing, a rock climbing wall, a kid’s hay maze, and fall-themed photo stations.  Standard-Examiner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Last month, Weber School District approved a 5.64% tax increase that funded safety upgrades but left repairs like playgrounds unfunded—this prompted debates over closing Lomond View Elementary and raised concerns about long-term costs. Parents rallied through a Facebook group and held a carnival on September 19 to raise funds for a new playground at Green Acres Elementary.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, UDOT will ban vehicles longer than 50 feet from State Route 39 in Ogden Canyon to lower risks that have led to deadly crashes since 2015. Drivers with longer loads must use Weber Canyon or Trappers Loop and extra safety measures like center-line rumble strips + a 35 mph speed limit will help keep everyone safe.  Standard-Examiner
  • Utah, six other states and the FTC filed a lawsuit on Thursday in a California federal court against Ticketmaster and LiveNation for deceptive pricing practices that use hidden fees to raise ticket costs by over 30%. The suit accuses the company of bait and switch tactics and of allowing brokers to bypass ticket limits to boost revenue.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Ogden Police Department has boosted its ranks to 159 officers, and Chief Sube said the department created a work culture that values hard work and accountability—efforts supported by Mayor Nadolski. The department is also adding a part-time researcher to showcase its history and build a lasting legacy.  Standard-Examiner

HEALTH NEWS

  • A University of Utah study found that refugees in Utah face food insecurity when newly earned incomes push them out of SNAP eligibility as language barriers keep them from learning about available support—federal changes to SNAP benefits will remove this critical lifeline in a few months. Researchers warned that the loss of food assistance will likely worsen nutritional challenges and related health risks for these vulnerable residents.  The Salt Lake Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • Davis High beat American Fork 29-14 Friday night as Tradon Bessinger passed for 435 yards and four touchdowns—Bear River won 35-14 over Tooele, Morgan bested Union 48-8, Layton Christian edged South Summit 29-16, Mountain Ridge defeated Box Elder 61-7, and Ogden fell 20-14 to Logan in regional matchups. In prep girls sports, North Summit won a 2-0 shootout over Utah Military Academy–Hill Field while Clearfield took three wins in volleyball contests.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State football is hosting Indianapolis-based Butler today at 7 p.m. at Stewart Stadium+ the Wildcats will debut a new LED display called the 'Flaming W' as they face Butler in their first Big Sky matchup amid mild weather.  Standard-Examiner
  • The Weber Warriors won 35-31 over Farmington in a Region 1 prep football game as Dyson Parker led a seven-play drive with a go-ahead touchdown run—Cade Judd recovered a fumbled snap in the final seconds to seal the win.  Standard-Examiner
  • On Friday, September 19, 2025, Syracuse High won a 52 to 7 regional game over Layton as junior defensive back Kaleb Hall set a school record with three interceptions and one fumble recovery—boosting the team's confidence for their upcoming game against Davis.  Standard-Examiner
