- ➤ A report by the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute says Utah must fix seven key issues ahead of the 2034 Olympics to keep its strong economy growing. The report suggests using state land trusts for cheaper housing and connected autonomous vehicles for smoother traffic — while also warning that the Great Salt Lake drying up could hurt the state. - ➤ On Saturday, Sept. 20th, a new permanent W lit the mountainside over Stewart Stadium in Ogden after university officials led by Brad Mortensen and Jack Lampros threw a ceremonial lever, and the solar-powered fixture is set to glow white nightly from dusk to 11 p.m.—with options to show purple or blinking lights for special events. - ➤ The IRS held a direct hiring event on Tuesday and is hosting another today at the Courtyard by Marriott—Ogden for seasonal customer service positions to fill over 300 spots at its service center. - ➤ Ogden City Council At Large Seat B member Bart Blair praised Mayor Ben Nadolski for improving city governance by encouraging open dialogue and providing timely information—recent live broadcasts of council work have led to faster decision-making. - ➤ Retired Weber State softball coach Mary Kay Amicone was inducted into the Utah Sports Hall of Fame on Sept. 22 at the Little America Hotel alongside John Buck, Wally Joyner, Stew Morrill+ and Holly Rowe. She won 808 games and led Weber State to four NCAA tournaments during her 32-year coaching career. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Morgan High sophomore Jace Benson won his first Region 12 individual title Tuesday at Scheiter’s Bluff Golf Course—he scored a tourney-low 66 in the final round that brought his total to 139 and earned him a state tournament berth. The Trojans also secured a team win with five players finishing at 79 or lower as they advanced their strong season. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Weber State beat Butler 38—24 at Stewart Stadium on Sept. 20 as Davion Godley rushed for 193 yards including a 52—yard run that set up the final touchdown, and three young players made key plays to help secure the win. Standard-Examiner
