ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Gov. Cox announced a $200 million effort at Farmington Bay to save the Great Salt Lake by uniting business and philanthropic groups+ setting a goal to restore it to a healthy level by the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Ducks Unlimited and The Romney Group each pledged $100 million+ as local experts stress water conservation to prevent further decline and harmful dust storms. FOX 13 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials discussed a compromise to resolve the conflict between Gib’s Loop Trail and Mount Ogden Golf Course—officials said the new trail alignment was designed to control trespassing and keep access safe for users. They noted that a survey earlier received over 600 responses, showing strong local support for the plan. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Gov. Spencer Cox announced GSL 2034 to help protect the Great Salt Lake as water levels drop close to record lows. The public-private initiative includes a $200M donation pledge—half committed by Ducks Unlimited while local business leaders plan to raise the remainder to fund lake protection projects ahead of the 2034 Winter Olympics. - ➤ Utah lawmakers held a meeting on September 24 and began a 10-day period for public comments on proposed maps after a judge voided the old map. The Legislature will vote on Oct. 6—one final map must be set by Nov. 10 for the midterm elections. KUER
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Seager Memorial Clinic will host its annual free screening day Saturday, Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ogden-Weber Technical College’s Health Technology Building where community members can receive free medical, dental, vision, mental health and pharmacy services on a first-come, first-serve basis — the event now in its fifth year also offers free tacos. - ➤ Ogden residents now have better kidney care since a new clinic opened at McKay-Dee Hospital this summer. The clinic offers eight exam rooms and on-site education to help catch kidney issues early—improving access for patients who once had to travel for care. Standard-Examiner

- ➤ The Weber High girls volleyball team came back from a slow start to beat Layton 3-1 in a Region 1 match Tuesday — they won the third set in extra time and then dominated the fourth set. Coach Renae Birch said the team had to stay focused on reducing errors as they continue their unbeaten run. Standard-Examiner
