COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ohana Beginnings, a nonprofit that helps single mothers, received a $1.23 million grant over five years from the state to offer parenting classes, healthcare aid, and essential supplies—such as cribs and car seats. The group will add childcare and mentoring services to help these women gain skills and boost their self-reliance.  KUER

CULTURE NEWS

  • Utah leaders expressed deep sorrow after President Russell M. Nelson, a 101-year-old church leader, died on September 27 around 10 p.m. Saturday. Gov. Spencer Cox and other officials described his legacy as one of unwavering faith and service—leaving a lasting impact on the community.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Utah-based author Brandon Sanderson said at FanX on Sept. 27 that he had considered buying Evermore Park—he explained that the idea was risky because of high expenses and the chance of overspending on his projects. He added that reviving the park might not work well and he would be very cautious if he ever moved forward.  The Salt Lake Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, September 27, the Utes defeated West Virginia 48—14 in Morgantown with strong offensive plays that included 242 rushing yards and 290 passing yards—helping reestablish them as a Big 12 contender. Coach Kyle Whittingham said his team will build on this performance as they prepare for upcoming games.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Jaxson Dart, a former standout at Roy High, built his career through transfers and injuries to earn the starting quarterback role for the New York Giants—Coach Brian Daboll will rely on him to lead the 0—3 team as he faces the undefeated Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.  The Salt Lake Tribune
