CULTURE NEWS

  • Ogden City Arts announced that October’s First Friday Art Stroll will take place at Newgate Mall and in downtown on Friday from 6—9 p.m. The event will feature a Mad Hatter Tea Party hosted by 9th Muse Academy of Art and a display called This Was Water at Dumke Arts Plaza that shows local art and warns of water issues.  Standard-Examiner

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Weber State University’s 27th Unity Conference will focus on censorship from Oct.2 to Oct.3; on Oct.2 the event will start at the Davis Campus with a film screening of Banned Together from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.—it will continue on Oct.3 at the Ogden campus with panel discussions and breakout sessions for students, faculty, and community members.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Spencer J. Cox ordered that the US flag and Utah state flag be flown at half-staff at all state facilities beginning at sunrise on Oct. 7 to honor President Russell M. Nelson during his funeral at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City—the flags will be lowered until sunset.  KSL-TV
  • Hundreds of Utahns have submitted comments on congressional maps in a court-ordered redistricting process that must follow Proposition 4. If the committee chosen on Oct-6 and approved by judge Dianna Gibson does not fully comply with the guidelines, plaintiffs will propose their own map directly to the courts.  FOX 13 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Fremont High won its fourth Region 5 boys golf championship in five years as West Field sophomore Mack Herzog earned his second straight individual medalist title after a Monday tournament at Round Valley Golf Course in Morgan—rain canceled the planned second round on Tuesday.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State women’s soccer has won four straight Big Sky games after a home sweep of Eastern Washington and Idaho that gave them a 2-0 start since 2021 — junior forward Lily Blum scored twice and earned co-offensive player of the week. The Wildcats, now 8-4 overall, will host Portland State tomorrow.  Standard-Examiner
