EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Following the August shooting at Utah Valley University—raising concerns about campus safety—the Utah Board of Higher Education created a task force to review security measures on public campuses. Commissioner Geoffrey Landward said the group will study protocols for daily operations and large events to better protect students and visitors. FOX 13 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Council member Marcia White said downtown must stay active after five and that plans like WonderBlock will bring more visitors to local shops and restaurants. She added that working with transit agencies will help revive Union Station and improve the Ogden-Hinckley Airport—moves aimed to boost future local growth. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Utah tax officials denied property tax hike requests from 35 cities, school districts, and other groups because they did not meet new law rules. North Ogden officials and Granite School District leaders are now exploring ways to appeal the decision—many groups may need to change their spending plans. KSL-TV

- ➤ Morgan High’s girls volleyball team secured the region title on Oct. 2 by sweeping Ogden 3-0—senior middle blocker Kenna Buss led a comeback after the team started slowly following an early nonregion match, keeping them undefeated in Region 12. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Morgan's senior Isabella Dickman and sophomore Viyvian Bailey became No. 1 seeds in the 3A state girls tennis bracket released Thursday, while Ogden's Berlin Beasley and Kimi Belnap secured first-round byes; Box Elder's Sophie Stokes and Annalee Nelson also earned a bye in the 5A bracket with matches starting Oct. 4 at Brighton High—later rounds will be held at Liberty Park Tennis Center. - ➤ On Thursday, Box Elder, Clearfield and West Field shared the Region 5 girls soccer title when West Field ended Box Elder’s eight—game win streak with a 1—0 victory as Ellie Chugg scored early and Harlie Slaughter kept a shutout.
