EDUCATION NEWS

  • On October 2, 2025, Sy Montgomery served as keynote at the Ogden School District Foundation’s Fall Author Event and met with 5th and 6th graders on October 3 to share her wild animal adventures and urge students to protect nature—her message drew on experiences from Brazil to Borneo and honored Jane Goodall’s legacy.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lawmakers will vote on a new congressional map on Oct.6 as part of a court-ordered redistricting process in Utah. Some critics say that GOP-backed maps are favored over public submissions—raising concerns about fairness.  KUER

SPORTS NEWS

  • Salesi Moa returned after missing Fremont’s previous game and helped his team win 48-30 at Box Elder on Friday by scoring three touchdowns while senior Cade Hadley made key plays. Fremont stays unbeaten in region play and looks ahead to its matchup with West Field next week—every play matters as the playoffs near.  Standard-Examiner
  • Northridge and Roy played a Region 5 football game Friday night that ended early due to lightning and thunderstorms with Roy leading 7—0 and 39 seconds left in the second quarter. The teams will resume the game at 5 p.m. today at Roy High School.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State women's soccer lost 1-0 to one-win Portland State at Wildcat Soccer Field when Aliayha Saldana scored in the 11th minute+ Weber State still leads the Big Sky and will play Montana on Oct. 9 before hosting Sacramento State on Oct. 12.  Standard-Examiner
  • Football on Friday saw Morgan High win 24-10 at Grantsville after a stadium evacuation for a lightning delay, while St. Joseph in Ogden rallied with strong plays as games in Layton and Clearfield will resume Saturday at set times+ St. Joseph’s girls volleyball beat Manila in a five-set match and teams competed in the Ogden Tiger Classic.  Standard-Examiner
