COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local residents have three events this week as the Halloween Havoc Demolition Derby will be held in Ogden at Golden Spike Event Center on Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m.—the Northern Utah Trailfest will run at North Fork Park in Eden from Oct. 4-5 at 4 p.m., and the Antelope Island Marathon will take place in Syracuse on Oct. 11 at 7 a.m.  Standard-Examiner
  • Northern Utah residents can look forward to a busy week of local events from Oct. 4 to Oct. 12, including Ogden's Fall Market on Historic 25th Street from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a parade at Municipal Garden Park, with additional art, nature, sports and community debates taking place in Ogden and nearby towns.  Standard-Examiner

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Spencer Cox called a special session of the Legislature on Monday to address a 13-item agenda that includes redrawing congressional district lines for submission to a judge and updating redistricting rules—lawmakers will also review a proposal that changes how the chief justice is appointed.  Standard-Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • At the Wasatch Hills Tennis Center on Saturday, Weber High sophomore Emberli Heap made her state debut in the 6A girls' tennis tournament and lost 6-2, 6-2 to top-seeded American Fork junior Sophie Leavitt in the semifinals. Heap won earlier rounds with four 6-0 sets—securing her position as Weber's lone semifinalist in the event.  Standard-Examiner
  • After a successful festival run and a three-week showing at Broadway Centre Cinemas in Salt Lake City, the documentary 'The Streak' about the 1987 Salt Lake Trappers and their record 29-game win streak opened on Oct. 3 at select Megaplex theaters in Ogden, Sandy, South Jordan, Lehi and St. George—tickets cost $5 and the film runs for 1 hour, 47 minutes.  Standard-Examiner
