CULTURE NEWS

  • The Proper Way played at Haglund Ranch in northern Utah in September. The band sang classic rock songs with clear voices and fresh sounds that won praise from local fans—showing their strong musical style.  The Ogdenite
  • Deann Armes, founder of The Ogdenite, announced she is launching a biweekly local arts and culture newspaper in Ogden—featuring local art, advertisers, and community news—with the first issue planned for November.  FOX 13 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Weber State University in Ogden announced it awarded a record 7,553 credentials last academic year—including 969 certificates, 3,507 associate’s degrees, 2,614 bachelor’s degrees, 426 master’s degrees, and 37 doctorates—demonstrating the success of its support programs to help students overcome barriers. University leaders said these numbers highlight the hard work of both students and staff and set the stage for continued growth.  Standard-Examiner

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Wizards waived former Weber State star Dillon Jones on Sunday to meet their 15-player roster limit after trading him from the Thunder in June—analysts expect NBA teams to claim him on waivers to continue his rookie contract.  Standard-Examiner
  • The Utah Mammoth beat the Boston Bruins 3-2 on Sunday night, with Dylan Guenther scoring the game-winning goal — extending the Mammoth's perfect home record to three wins. Nick Schmaltz and Clayton Keller added four points, and Utah will host the Colorado Avalanche today at 8 p.m.  KSL-TV
  • Weber High alum Conner Howe and Layton alum David Liechty received sponsor exemptions for the Bank of Utah Championship, which tees off Thursday at Black Desert Resort. Farmington’s Preston Summerhays and BYU freshman Kihei Akina also received exemptions — the three-day tournament will showcase rising talent — as northern Utah golfers prepare to compete.  Standard-Examiner
