- ➤ Catholic Community Services in Ogden is asking for food and cash donations as 86,000 Utah families will lose SNAP benefits on Nov. 1 due to the government shutdown—its food bank has already seen an increase in households needing help and expects volunteer support to grow. KSL-TV

- ➤ October rains improved soil moisture across Utah, easing drought conditions but leaving water supplies uncertain as experts warn the upcoming winter will depend on a coin-flip of snowfall due to a developing La Niña pattern—northern areas may see above-average snow while southern parts could see less. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ United Way of Salt Lake and United Way of Northern Utah have launched the United Way 211 Emergency Relief Fund to aid furloughed government workers and local households impacted by the shutdown. The fund aims to raise at least $1 million and will support critical local programs and community partners—initial donations reached about $5,000. Standard-Examiner
- ➤ Governor Cox revealed a master plan for the Utah Trail Network at the Utah Transportation Conference on October 28. Designed by UDOT and approved with nearly $95 million, the plan will eventually connect over 200 towns, many colleges, and more than 30 parks so that 95% of Utahns live within one mile of a trail — construction may begin in summer if supply chains and weather allow. - ➤ On Tuesday at Sugar House Park, high school cross country runners Alysia Pinchak of St. Joseph and Cruz Webb of Utah Military Academy-Hill Field finished in the top 20 with times of 22:52.52 and 17:40.63, respectively—Pinchak placed 19th in the 1A girls race while Webb finished 20th in the 2A boys race.
