EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Utah Board of Higher Education announced a nine-member search committee to choose Weber State’s next long-term president after Brad Mortensen left on Nov. 10 — the committee will look for candidates who can support the school’s mission of access and excellence. Co-chairs Javier Chavez Jr. and Ally Isom will work with a professional search firm in the coming weeks — the process is expected to take several months.  Standard-Examiner

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Ogden’s new House Cat Cafe offers coffee, treats and adoptable cats in a space that includes a main serving area and a separate glass room for the cats — the cafe serves as an official foster for local kitties and hosts weekly family events. Co-owners Jenny Wilcox and Christine Otterstrom began planning the business two years ago to bring a cozy, pet-friendly spot to the community.  The Ogdenite

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Field’s boys basketball team has grown into a senior-led squad with returning star Mike Russell—son of the famed Ogden coach—and will start their season with a home game against Morgan on Friday. Coach Russell said the team has built trust and plans to show its strength in upcoming contests.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State’s men’s basketball team debuted a new bold purple uniform with the classic Go W logo as an alternate this season. A social media poll of 120 responses yielded high ratings with 82.5% choosing an A or B—resulting in a 3.35 GPA for the jersey.  Standard-Examiner
