COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A Northern Utah community came together Tuesday night at the annual Shane Showdown charity hockey event—honoring families affected by a car crash that claimed the lives of 14-year-old Xylie Hutchinson and 17-year-old Laulea Fiefia—and teammates said playing in remembrance helped them heal.  KSL-TV
  • Bout Time Pub and Grub in northern Utah are preparing for Thanksgiving Eve crowds tonight—extra staff are ready to help customers with safe ride options after drinking. UDOT and local police have reported 65 impaired driving fatalities so far this year and urge everyone to plan ahead for a safe trip home.  FOX 13 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ogden City named 7-year-old Remington Jones as the Grand Marshal for its 2025 Holiday Electric Light Parade after he was chosen by the Make-A-Wish Foundation and honored for his courage in fighting a serious illness. The parade on Saturday will begin with a Santa 5K run at 4:30 p.m.—followed by a procession, the opening of Christmas Village at 6:30 p.m. and a fireworks show.  Standard-Examiner

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Governor Spencer Cox announced plans for a nuclear hub in Brigham City that will include two small modular reactors and a manufacturing plant to support future energy needs. Experts at Idaho National Laboratory explained safe recycling and storage methods for spent nuclear fuel to help manage rising power demands in the West.  The Salt Lake Tribune

  • Yesterday, the Utah Mammoth hockey team visited Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital where players gave out books, crafts, and fun activities to lift the spirits of young patients during Thanksgiving break— the team also plans to visit the hospital's Lehi campus soon.  KSL-TV

  • The Ogden Mustangs hockey team will launch their Toys for Tots drive this Friday at home games—fans who donate a new, unwrapped toy will get 10% off a merchandise purchase that night.  Standard-Examiner
  • Weber State volleyball lost to Idaho State in a five set semifinal reverse sweep — ending their season with an 18 to 12 record and sending the Bengals to a title match for the first time in 11 years.  Standard-Examiner
  • Roy High boys basketball rallied in a strong final frame, beating Weber 65 to 57 on Tuesday night as Boston Greenhalgh tallied 26 points while Fremont won 64 to 57 over Summit Academy with key plays by Cam Campbell and Easton Hansen. Other prep contests in Plain City and Ogden reported notable scores from local teams—boosting momentum for the season.  Standard-Examiner
