  • More than 400 donors have helped two local GoFundMe campaigns—one boosting Clearfield resident Bree Cabrera's effort to regain mobility after her wheelchair-accessible van was repossessed, and the other supporting the Mkina family in Ogden after their daughter Martha died in a car accident with over $16,000 of $20,000 and over $6,000 of $7,000 raised respectively.  Standard-Examiner

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • After a car crash on Monday night caused a vehicle to slide off the road and dislodge boulders onto the Ogden River Parkway tunnel at Monroe Boulevard, city crews are using heavy equipment to clear the trail—officials say they hope to reopen it today, though no detour is available.  FOX 13 News

  • Asahi Refining is building a new 12,000-square-foot refinery in West Valley City that will open in 2026; its pure gold bars help make gold Utah’s biggest export and over 60% of the project cost will go to local contractors (from its 2024–25 report).  The Salt Lake Tribune

  • Mt. Joy will headline the Ogden Twilight Concert Series at Ogden Amphitheater on Aug. 25—organizers said lower season ticket rates will be offered until the full lineup is announced.  KSL-TV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Negotiators on the overallocated Colorado River may force Utah to cut water use for cities, tribes and farmers—experts say the reduction is needed to address shortages from climate change and low river flows. The seven basin states must agree on a plan by mid-February, and new water restrictions could soon affect drinking supplies and irrigation.  The Salt Lake Tribune
  • Utah set tailored water conservation goals for homes, schools and businesses—aiming to reduce use by 16% by 2030—with 15 counties already meeting targets while others like Weber, Juab and Box Elder face challenges; local officials plan to update aging pipelines and adopt drought-friendly landscaping to avoid costly future projects.  The Salt Lake Tribune

  • The Utah Department of Transportation expanded its Roads to Recreation program to include Ogden Valley for drivers heading to winter recreation spots.
